Through the use of multimedia you can help stimulate your childs interests in studying. There are websites you can use to find free Chinese lessons through video and audio. You can sing and dance along to the videos or audios making the learning process fun for all. Finding out what is most appealing to your children like cartoons or animals that teach Mandarin will be more child friendly and fun than a person teaching them.

Go to your public library to borrow Mandarin teaching materials like CDs, DVDs, books, and games. Make the best use of those free Chinese learning resources. You can even expand their interests in things that are related with the Chinese language, like get your kids interested in China or Chinese food, or China history and Chinese art. Therefore, you can borrow documentaries about China to watch with your kids and discuss them after watching.

You should show your kids that you are interested in learning Chinese yourself, because you are your kids first teacher and the most important influence in their life. Have conversations in Mandarin at least once a week or even better, once a day.

Learn the language with them, try and learn more than them so you can be the teacher they look to for the answers that they need when they are learning.

Be creative, help them to make bilingual (English and Chinese) flash cards. At first you can borrow from the library or buy the flash cards then introduce your children to making their own. Discuss the tools and materials you will be using to make the flash cards and how many you are going to make. You should also discuss what you are going draw and write on each card. We encourage this because the creation of bilingual tools will help keep your children interested in the languages they are learning.

Try reading in Chinese with your kids at least once a week. Studys show that while images and animation are helpful toward learning, reading of text is a better way of developing thinking skills and imagination.

Does your child enjoy using the internet ? Why don’t you help them to create a blog that lists everything about the Chinese language that they are learning each day, keeping them interested in learning the language. You could post videos or upload audios of your children speaking Mandarin or create discussions and write about new ways you have found to help them learn.
